Case Study - A personality packed heart of an open plan home, on the southeast coast

Another of our team’s favourites from the archives is this deceptively compact, hard-working, and absolute show-stopper of a kitchen in an open plan modern home in Pevensey Bay, East Sussex.

The biggest challenge with this build was making this compact kitchen as beautiful as well as functional in an open plan, entertaining space.  Open plan kitchen / diners in smaller spaces default to lighter colours and plainer textures to try and keep an illusion of space and beach front properties so often showcase a traditional ‘beachy’ style vibe.  This build, however, really flips the script and is all-the-more memorable for it.

Big double height windows looking directly onto the beach face this kitchen, which constantly flood the room with bright, natural light.  This enabled the design to cope with darker colours that added warmth.

Clever storage became a design feature.

Our richly oiled London Plane with 150mm oblong routed handles exposing the birch plywood core, and our signature plywood edge details on the end panels work exceptionally well in this setting.

It creates drama and impact while feeling warm and inviting.  The warmth of the brass splashback and worktop adds style and glamour.

Materials used:

·         London Plane with 150mm oblong routed handles exposing the birch plywood core

·         Plywood edge details on end panels

·         Bespoke cabinetry to create clever storage solutions in our signature 18mm birch ply

·         Brass splashback and worktop coursed by client

·         Budget range to achieve a similar look: £5000 - £6500

Great kitchens respond to their environment, but do not have to be dictated by it.

Our clients wanted their kitchen to be a statement of their personality, and it feels as warm, playful and as fun as they are.
