KindFocus – Neuro-Inclusive Kitchen Design
Calm kitchens for brains with too many tabs open.
KindFocus is our sensory-led kitchen design project for people who feel overwhelmed by bright lights, noise, clutter or busy layouts. It’s about making kitchens that feel calmer, clearer and easier to live with.
Who KindFocus is for
KindFocus is for you if any of these feel true:
- Kitchens feel loud, bright, cluttered or stressful.
- You’re neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified).
- You support neurodivergent people in your home.
- You want a kitchen that feels calm, simple and supportive.
We start with your sensory needs and routines, not with trends.
8-week research programme
To shape KindFocus, we’re running an 8-week research programme with people who live with sensory overload in the kitchen.
What you’ll do:
- Fill in a short survey about your current kitchen.
- Share your main sensory pain points (light, sound, clutter, layout).
- Optionally send photos or a quick video of problem areas.
- Give feedback on simple design ideas we share with you.
What you’ll get:
- Early access to sensory-friendly kitchen design ideas.
- A thank-you discount on future work with KindRoot.
- The chance to directly shape how KindFocus develops.
To join: email hello@kindroot.co.uk with the subject line “KindFocus Research” and a few lines about you.
Why sensory-led kitchens matter
Most kitchens are designed around looks and storage. For many neurodivergent people, that isn’t enough.
Common issues we hear about:
- Harsh, bright lighting that feels uncomfortable.
- Echoey spaces and noisy appliances.
- Open shelves and clutter that make it hard to focus.
- Layouts that make simple tasks feel complicated or tiring.
KindFocus asks: what if your kitchen helped regulate your nervous system instead of overwhelming it?
The story behind KindFocus
I’ve spent years in kitchen design and workshop management, helping people create spaces that work for their homes.
When the company I worked for went into liquidation, I lost my job and the team lost our workshop overnight. At the same time, I was navigating my own sensory needs and noticing how many “normal” kitchens are not built with brains like mine in mind.
Instead of walking away, I created KindRoot – and KindFocus is the part of the business dedicated to neuro-inclusive, sensory-aware design.
Where KindFocus is heading
Right now, KindFocus is in a research and development phase. Your feedback will shape what it becomes.
It may evolve into:
- A 1:1 sensory profiling and kitchen design service.
- A set of ready-made neuro-inclusive kitchen plans.
- Toolkits and guides you can use yourself or with another designer.
We’re keeping this open on purpose, so we can build something that actually works for the people who need it.
Quick FAQs
Do I need a formal diagnosis?
No. If you identify as neurodivergent or have sensory challenges, you’re welcome.
Is the research programme free?
Yes. There is no cost to take part. Future services will be clearly priced.
Do I have to share photos or video?
No. Written answers are fine. Anything visual is optional.
Can I work with KindRoot without joining the research?
Yes. KindFocus is one part of what we do. We can still bring sensory-aware
thinking into any kitchen project.
