Why I Built My Kitchen Planner: A Calmer Way to Plan a Kitchen Renovation

After years of designing, making and supporting kitchens, I noticed something surprising:
most kitchen renovations don’t become stressful because of bad design — they become stressful because of how they’re planned.

There wasn’t a simple, calm kitchen renovation planning app that helped homeowners organise timelines, costs, tasks and trades in one place.
So I built one.

The problem with kitchen renovation planning

Kitchen projects start with excitement. Mood boards, inspiration images, big ideas.

But very quickly, information becomes fragmented.

Measurements sit in emails.
Quotes live in PDFs.
Decisions are buried in WhatsApp threads.
Screenshots pile up.
Timelines live in people’s heads.

Even the most organised homeowners end up overwhelmed — not because they’re doing anything wrong, but because the process itself isn’t designed to support them.

Why kitchen projects feel overwhelming

From my side as a kitchen designer and manufacturer, I was seeing the same issues again and again:

  • Decisions being revisited because nothing was logged clearly

  • Important details getting lost between different people

  • Confusion around what had been confirmed and what hadn’t

  • Stress caused by uncertainty, not complexity

Everyone was trying their best — homeowners, designers, builders, installers — but there was no shared place to keep everything aligned.

Designing a kitchen planning app from real experience

My Kitchen Planner wasn’t built as a tech project.
It was built from lived experience.

I wanted to create something that:

  • reduced mental load

  • brought clarity without complexity

  • supported better communication

  • helped people feel in control of their renovation

Not another overwhelming project management tool.
Not something only professionals could use.

A human-centred kitchen project planning app, designed around how people actually think and make decisions.

What is My Kitchen Planner?

My Kitchen Planner is a simple project hub that helps homeowners organise their kitchen renovation in one place — and share it with the people supporting them.

It allows you to:

  • collect inspiration, notes and decisions

  • log measurements and space details

  • track products and specifications

  • understand costs and budgets

  • map timelines and key dates

  • share progress with designers, builders and installers

Everyone sees the same information.
Nothing gets lost.
Decisions feel calmer and more considered.

How My Kitchen Planner helps homeowners plan a kitchen renovation

Whether you’re:

  • planning a kitchen independently

  • working with a builder or trades

  • using a kitchen company

  • DIY-ing parts of the project

My Kitchen Planner gives you a clear structure without taking over your process.

You can use it solo, or invite others to view or contribute — helping everyone stay aligned without endless messages or misunderstandings.

My Kitchen Planner and the KindRoot approach

At KindRoot, we design kitchens with intention — thinking about calm, flow, clarity and how a space feels to live in.

It never sat right with me that the planning process didn’t reflect those same values.

My Kitchen Planner is an extension of the KindRoot approach:

  • calm over chaos

  • clarity over confusion

  • people before process

  • thoughtful design, inside and out

For KindRoot clients, access to My Kitchen Planner is included as part of their journey — because good design deserves a good experience too.

A calmer future for kitchen renovations

This app is still evolving, shaped by real users and real projects.

But the goal will always stay the same:
to make kitchen renovations feel clearer, calmer and more human.

If you’re planning a kitchen and want a better way to organise it all, you can learn more at mykitchenplanner.co.uk.

And if you’re already a KindRoot client — it’s part of your journey 🤍
